PROACTIVE PREDICTIVE
Watchkeeper uses satellite technology to automatic position reporting at regular intervals (tracker‑dependent), supporting predictive monitoring and earlier anomaly detection. This allows Watchkeepers to monitor a yacht’s position and predict its future position with greater accuracy. When any abnormal situation arises, the Watchkeepers can communicate with vessel seeking clarification.
FOREWARNED, FOREARMED
We monitor weather and relevant maritime warnings along the projected route and provide an additional input to the yacht’s decision-making. Watchkeepers forewarn and forearm the Yachtmaster improving safety. We’re another set of eyes – overseeing your safety at sea.

Our Watchkeepers maintain a complete log online of all communications and actions between yachts and the shore. Watchkeepers can play a key role in assisting yachts in distress, they have additional vital information.

HOW IT WORKS
Watchkeeper is a service that is provided to all yachts embarking on passages that are coastal or blue water for a duration of more than 24 hours.
Before any voyage we provide some tracking technology for the yacht. Also before a voyage the Yachtmasters submits a sail plan to SKED24x7 that contains the route of the intended passage. The sailplan is updated whenever the Master Skipper decides to change timings or routes materially.
Once a vessel departs Watchkeepers constantly predict the position of vessel based on information at hand and compare this actual position as it becomes available. Watchkeepers also monitor weather along the yachts projected path. An on-duty Watchkeeper will advise the Yachtmaster of changing conditions to give them another valuable source of input to make decisions. This is undertaken as a direct notification communication between SKED24x7 and the yacht – no matter where the yacht is located.
Our Watchkeepers maintain a complete log online of all communications and actions between yachts and the shore. Watchkeepers can play a key role in assisting yachts in distress, they have additional vital information. An emergency is declared when a yacht is experiencing problems and there is a reasonable certainty of a threat to the safety of the yacht or its passengers or when emergency assistance is required.
A Watchkeeper also advises search and rescue agencies when Yachtmasters fail to report at a predefined SKED (report schedule) according to a well-defined and understood protocols. Crucially, Watchkeepers maintain a rolling Risk Assessment for all vessels. Should a yacht not be heard from by the Watchkeeper for a period of time a clearly defined escalation process is routinely activated – ultimately this may result in an ‘incident’ to be registered with the Authorities responsible for Search and Rescue in the area.
AMSA is responsible for all search and rescue coordination in Australia. AMSA’s Rescue Coordination Centre in Canberra will coordinate search and rescue efforts on receiving a distress signal or notification of an yacht incident, generally with the assistance of local emergency services.
